Lancaster, Pennsylvania (August 1, 2011) –For the third consecutive year, geographIT® sponsored a student to attend Washington College’s annual Computer Mapping Technology Summer Camp. The one week camp held June 19-25 at the college’s Chestertown campus in Maryland provided youth in grades 7-12 classroom instruction on geospatial technology, field trips, and the opportunity to select one of three focus groups for concentrated field projects including Crime Stoppers, Environmental Studies, and 3-D visualization. At the end of the week, each focus group was required to make a formal presentation to their peers about what they learned and how they applied their newly acquired geospatial technology skills on their project.
“The Washington College GIS summer camp provides an excellent opportunity to introduce young people to geospatial technology and expose them to the various ways it can be applied to studying geo-temporal dimensions of real world problems”, said Bruce Stauffer, Vice President of geographIT. “And, the added bonus is the variety of recreational activities offered by the camp which makes it a fun and rewarding social experience.”
Scholarships pay the fees for individuals who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the summer camp. To learn more about the 2011 Washington College GIS Summer Camp, visit:
