Lancaster, Pennsylvania (December 5, 2011) – The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) and the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) invited a task force of geospatial management professionals to participate in the development of a draft "Geospatial Management Competency Model" (GMCM). This effort, which follows the successful publication of the “Geospatial Technology Competency Model” (GTCM) published by DOLETA in 2010, will eventually lead to the identification and publication of critical work skills and competencies required of geospatial industry managers.
Bruce Stauffer, Vice President of geographIT, was invited to serve on the task force as a private sector industry representative. The task force met for a one day workshop on November 3rd during URISA’s GIS-Pro 2011 Conference in Indianapolis to develop a draft framework and preliminary content for the GMCM. Subsequent to the workshop, members of the task force also contributed additional content and editorial review of the GMCM in preparation for eventual release of the document for industry and public review and comment.
